For complete and approved applications including the background check, your license will be issued and posted on the Online License Lookup. The license certificate will be mailed to you via U.S. Mail.
For applications where more information is needed, you will receive a written notification from the DPI with specific instructions.
All applications receive a background check. Some applications require additional time for completing the background check. For more information about background check, click here.
* Out-of-state applications take longer to review. Please allow 8-12 weeks before licensure decision is made for out-of-state applications.
Use our Online License Lookup to verify:
- Your application date: when your application (with payment) was received.
- Whether your license has been issued.
If your application date is before the date listed above, and you have not received your license or heard from us, please contact us.
Wisconsin law provides that your old license REMAINS VALID AND DOES NOT EXPIRE until the DPI finishes processing your renewal application. §227.51(2) Wis. Stats.
