Applying for a License/Permit

****** We have experienced an overwhelming volume of phone calls and email these past few weeks seeking assistance with ELO and licensing. We will continue to work with educators who had reached out for assistance or started an application online prior to June 30th to be able to assist with technical issues that prevented application completion.  Applications from these educators who made a good faith effort to apply will be considered as having been made timely. ******

The DPI no longer accepts paper application forms for educator licenses. Our Educator Licensing Online (ELO) system is being phased in.  We are aware that the phasing in process may cause inconveniences to school districts and educators. Please return to this website periodically for additional updates on the new system.

In order to apply for a license or permit issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), a complete license application must be submitted by all applicants.

To avoid delay in processing your application, please submit a complete application. Incomplete applications cannot be processed. Applicants who submit an incomplete application will be notified of the specific errors or omissions. Applicants should promptly respond with all necessary information to complete the application.

Please review the page of supplemental materials or forms needed before applying for a license.

To apply for a license or permit, please visit our Educator Licensing Online (ELO) page for instructions - http://tepdl.dpi.wi.gov/elo.
